Expert calls for strategic cooperation between Iran and Armenia

Majid Karimi, a senior Iranian expert on Caucasus issues, has called for strategic cooperation between Iran and Armenia, emphasizing that their current level of diplomatic relations is insufficient.

“We should go for strategic and defense cooperation between Iran and Armenia because we have common enemies in this region – Turkey and Azerbaijan. They are doing many things against us,” he told Panorama.am in an interview on Monday.

While acknowledging the positive economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations, Karimi stressed that the next step should be the signing of a strategic agreement focused on defense and military cooperation between Iran and Armenia, highlighting their shared borders and the importance of Syunik Province for both counters.

Karimi also condemned the killings of civilians in Syria, labelling it a genocide and holding Turkey responsible for the violence. He suggested that Iran and Armenia could cooperate against Turkey’s aggressive policy on the South Caucasus, but emphasized the need to involve third parties to help deter Turkey.
