Azerbaijan uses show trials of Armenian prisoners to send dangerous messages, MP warns

Azerbaijan is using the show trials of Armenian prisoners as a tool for propaganda, aiming to send dangerous messages to the Armenian public and the international community, warns opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan.

“In many cases, the messages are so carefully disguised that they even circulate within the Armenian information sphere in a seemingly positive light. And even when their problematic nature is recognized, the full extent of their risks is not always fully understood,” he wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

He called for extreme caution when dealing with information coming from Baku, warning that Azerbaijan often mixes seemingly accurate details with outright false and harmful narratives, pushing them into public discourse.

“The situation is extremely dangerous for us because the Armenian authorities have completely failed to ensure information security, leaving society highly vulnerable. The issue extends beyond the sham trials to Azerbaijan’s broader information strategy,” Abrahamyan stated.
