Artsakh Armenians express gratitude to Swiss parliament for resolution

In December 2024, the lower house of the Swiss parliament, the National Council, adopted a resolution calling on Switzerland to host an international peace forum on Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).

Gagik Baghunts, the acting Artsakh parliament speaker, highlighted the importance of the decision at a rally outside the Swiss Embassy in Yerevan on Thursday.

"Various forces, both abroad and within Armenia, are trying to portray the situation as if the Karabakh issue is resolved and no longer exists. We categorically reject these claims. We have fought and will continue to fight for our collective return to our historical homeland," Baghunts declared.

The rally participants expressed their gratitude to the Swiss parliament’s lower house for the resolution and urged the upper house to adopt it as well. They also called on the Swiss government to use its well-established role as a neutral mediator to initiate international discussions on the displaced Artsakh Armenians' right to repatriation.

"If the upper house makes a positive decision at its March 18 session, the government will be required to hold hearings, which would attract significant international attention to the issue," Baghunts added.
