Armenian FM thanks Russia for border service

The Armenia-Turkey normalization process continues, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated.

“In addition to establishing diplomatic relations, reopening the borders and reactivating transport infrastructure between our countries is crucial,” he said in the parliament on Friday, emphasizing the significance of re-launching the Gyumri-Kars railway.

Mirzoyan also unveiled an agreement with Turkey to restore the historic Ani Bridge.

"We have agreements that are yet to be implemented, including ensuring free movement for third-country citizens and opening the border for them, as well as for Armenian and Turkish citizens holding diplomatic passports," he added.

The minister highlighted that only Armenian border guards have been stationed at the renovated Margara checkpoint on the Armenian-Turkish border since February 28. He noted that all border crossing points across Armenia are exclusively patrolled by Armenian border guards starting from March 1.

"In this regard, I would like to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to our Russian partners for providing this service until now," Mirzoyan added.
