Azerbaijan preparing for new border provocations, Armenian MP warns

Amid the conclusion of negotiations on the so-called "peace agreement" between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's false reports of ceasefire violations by Armenia on Sunday have stirred public concern, says Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition Pativ Unem faction.

"On one hand, Armenian authorities are feeding the public false hopes about a long-awaited peace, while on the other hand, unofficial Azerbaijani sources are hinting at a new war," Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook.

"In a single day, Azerbaijan issued three false reports about ceasefire violations in Syunik Province, reinforcing the idea that it is not preparing for peace, but rather for new provocations," the MP noted.

Abrahamyan stated that Azerbaijan aims to escalate border tensions to pressure Armenia into opening a so-called corridor through Syunik, a demand excluded from the draft peace treaty.

"At the same time, disarming Armenia remains a key objective for Azerbaijan. Recently, the issue has been pushed to the forefront under the dangerous demand for 'demilitarization'. One thing is clear: Azerbaijan will tighten the noose to the end, seeking to 'squeeze' Armenia and deprive it of the ability to make independent decisions,” he added.
