Armenian expert: Trump's negative sentiment toward Zelensky has deep roots

Political analyst Suren Sargsyan has addressed the ongoing tensions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Ahead of the November 2024 elections, Zelensky visited the United States. Trump's team interpreted his political meetings as covert support for Harris, even though Zelensky had met with both Trump and Harris. The visit was closely followed by the American media and political strategists,” Sargsyan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

"In fact, Trump's strongly negative attitude toward Zelensky has deep roots. In 2019, Trump asked Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter. After Zelensky's refusal, the domestic political crisis escalated, ultimately leading to Trump’s impeachment, which is widely considered one of the most humiliating chapters in his presidency.

"This is why Trump sees Zelensky as the main figure behind his 2019 impeachment. While resentment is not the only reason for Trump's hostility, his personalized approaches should be taken into account when assessing his political views and psychological profile," the expert explained.
