Security chief: Armenian Defense Ministry will defend country if attacked

Armenia, under the leadership of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, is ready to sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan and engage in technical discussions on the date, time and other details of signing the document, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan stated at a government press briefing on Thursday.

He emphasized Armenia's commitment to advancing the peace agenda and ensuring the agreement is signed.

"Armenia continues to work publicly toward finalizing the peace treaty, as the text has already been agreed upon," Grigoryan noted, "Since the draft peace agreement has been agreed upon, we are pushing forward with the signing process."

Grigoryan refrained from commenting on recent border tensions.

When asked about Pashinyan’s statement on refraining from opening fire along the border with Azerbaijan, the security chief assured: "Naturally, the Defense Ministry will protect Armenia. There is no doubt about that. If attacked, Armenia’s territory will be defended."

He said the text of the agreement will be publicized once the date and venue for its conclusion are decided.
