Ex-NATO chief urges Azerbaijan to sign peace deal with Armenia as soon as possible

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, founding president of Rasmussen Global international political consultancy organization and former NATO secretary general, has called for international pressure on Azerbaijan to sign the peace deal with Armenia.

At a press conference in Armenia on Thursday, he expressed deep concern over Azerbaijan's rhetoric.

“I hope that the international community, including EU member states and other countries, will exert their influence on Azerbaijan by urging and demanding that it sign the agreement with Armenia as soon as possible," Rasmussen said.

“I once again call on Azerbaijan to sign that agreement as soon as possible. The issues that were unresolved have now been resolved through concessions made by Armenia. The ball is in Azerbaijan’s court and it must swiftly sign it,” he added.

The former NATO chief stated that signing the treaty would also be in Azerbaijan’s interests, as it would promote the development of Baku’s relations with the international community.
