Iran says ready to hold indirect talks with US

Iran is prepared to engage in indirect talks with the United States, but direct dialogue remains unlikely due to the threats and maximum pressure policy imposed by former US President Donald Trump, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

"Our position is unequivocal. Under the policy of maximum pressure and the threats that have been voiced, Iran will not enter into direct talks with the US as long as there is no change in the approach of the other side toward Iran and the Iranian people. Given the ongoing accusations and policies being directed at us, we will not engage in direct discussions with the US; however, we remain open to indirect talks," TASS quoted him as telling SNN TV in an interview on Monday.

Araghchi underscored that Tehran's primary responsibility is to defend the interests of the country and its people, asserting that the authorities "will not miss any opportunity" to fulfill this mandate.
