Rubio asks Turkey's support for peace in Ukraine and South Caucasus

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss cooperation on key issues in security and trade, the State Department reported.

"The Secretary requested Turkey's support for peace in Ukraine and the South Caucasus. He appreciated Turkey's leadership in the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and reiterated the need for close cooperation to support a stable, unified, peaceful Syria," it said.

Rubio also expressed concerns regarding recent arrests and protests in Turkey.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday held a phone conversation with Marco Rubio to discuss the Armenia-U.S. strategic partnership, as well as issues related to the regional agenda. According to the Armenian government, Pashinyan informed Rubio that the draft peace agreement with Azerbaijan is awaiting signing.
