Expert: Risk of war remains high as long as Pashinyan regime rules Armenia

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss cooperation on key issues in security and trade, the State Department reported.

"The Secretary requested Turkey's support for peace in Ukraine and the South Caucasus,” it said.

Geopolitical strategist and regional security expert Varuzhan Geghamyan suggests that the U.S. is attempting to stop the Turkey-Azerbaijan duo from launching a new attack on Armenia. He cited similar claims made by U.S. foreign policy expert Suren Sargsyan.

“Trump is currently focused on ending the war in Ukraine while also exploring potential negotiations with Iran or increasing pressure on Tehran. Any development that could disrupt these priorities is unwelcome for his administration. Washington understands that Azerbaijani aggression in the South Caucasus could derail its plans. Therefore, it is essential to prevent reckless actions by Azerbaijan (and Turkey) and avoid escalations in the South Caucasus,” Sargsyan stated.

However, Geghamyan warned of a high risk of new Azerbaijani attack on Armenia.

“As long as the current capitulant regime remains in power in Armenia, the risk of renewed war and aggression remains dangerously high,” he wrote on Telegram on Wednesday.

"From a geopolitical standpoint, the current situation, along with developments in Syria, Turkey and the war in Ukraine, provides Armenia with a small and temporary window of opportunity, including the chance to establish a national government," he added.
