Retrospective screening of Sergei Parajanov's films held in Lisbon

As part of the official program celebrating renowned filmmaker Sergei Parajanov's 100th anniversary, a retrospective screening of his films was held at the Portuguese Cinematheque in Lisbon.

Titled The Secret World of Sergei Parajanov, the showcase was organized by the Armenian Cinema Foundation in collaboration with the Portuguese Cinematheque, as well as partners from Georgia and Ukraine. The Armenian Cinema Foundation’s delegation participated in the event with funding from Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

The opening ceremony featured speeches by Cinematheque Director Rui Machado, Director of the Armenian Cinema Foundation Davit Banuchyan and Vahe Mkhitaryan, chairman of the Portugal-Armenia Friendship Association, the ministry reported on Thursday.

The program included The Color of Pomegranates, Hakob Hovnatanyan and excerpts from Parajanov’s unfinished film Confession.

Running from March 15-31, the event aimes to promote Parajanov’s legacy and introduce his cinema to international audiences.
