Gyumri mayoral candidate's father placed under administrative supervision

The Anti-Corruption Court has placed Kamo Grigoryan, the father of Gyumri mayoral candidate Martun Grigoryan, under administrative supervision.

Law enforcement officers raided Grigoryan’s campaign offices and house before arresting his father and son on Thursday. The Anti-Corruption Committee said the crackdown was part of a criminal investigation into allegations that some election contenders were trying to buy votes. Grigoryan denied the accusations as politically motivated.

Lawyer Arsen Babayan reported that the court granted the investigator’s request, imposing restrictions on Kamo Grigoryan on Friday. He is now banned from leaving his house between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Babayan added that the court also banned Kamo Grigoryan from contacting other individuals involved in the case. He clarified that "other individuals" refers only to those directly connected to the case.

The imposed measure is indefinite and will remain in place until the end of the investigation.

"It’s essentially house arrest with permission to go out during the day," Babayan said.

Similar restrictions have also been imposed on Martun Grigoryan’s son, Karen Grigoryan, and two other members of his campaign team.

Grigoryan heads the opposition Our City bloc in the municipal elections.
