MP: Armenian government drops genocide issue as Turkey pushes false Azeri narratives

Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has criticized the government for sidelining the Armenian Genocide issue in its foreign policy while Turkey and Azerbaijan actively push false historical narratives.

Abrahamyan noted that since Monday, Azerbaijani media has been flooded with reports attempting to portray the events of 1918 as a genocide committed by Armenians.

"In this context, Turkey’s defense ministry made a predictable statement, falsely labeling those events as genocide," he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

Describing Turkey and Azerbaijan as "genocidal states" that lack the moral authority to accuse others of crimes they themselves have committed, the MP emphasized that the real issue lies with Armenia’s current leadership.

"The Armenian authorities are removing the issue of the Armenian Genocide from their foreign policy agenda, with the symbol of defeat, Nikol Pashinyan, making denialist statements. In response, Turkey issues condemnations and presents Azerbaijan’s fabricated 'facts' as genocide. This reflects the full extent of the authorities’ wretchedness and the price of putting the country up for sale," Abrahamyan stated.
