Armenian MP honors fallen heroes of April 2016 war

Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition Pativ Unem faction, took to Facebook on Wednesday to mark the ninth anniversary of the April 2016 Artsakh war.

“Nine years ago, on 2 April 2016, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale military offensive against Artsakh, seeking to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through military aggression and eliminate the Armenian presence there,” he wrote.

“However, the Artsakh Defense Army, with the steadfast support of the Armenian people, thwarted Azerbaijan’s plans in four days of fighting. The enemy suffered heavy losses in both personnel and military equipment.

“During the four-day war, Armenia lost 75 soldiers. According to intelligence reports and various foreign sources, Azerbaijan suffered approximately 700 casualties. Several of its brigades, including the elite Yashma special operations unit, sustained heavy losses and became combat-ineffective.

“Eternal glory to those who fell defending the homeland! Deepest respect to all those who have contributed to the defense and territorial integrity of our homeland throughout the decades,” Abrahamyan said.
