Russian Foreign Ministry comments on passage of EU accession bill in Armenia

It is impossible to be part of both the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union simultaneously, but the choice ultimately rests with Armenia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

"We firmly believe that it is impossible to be a member of two fundamentally different and opposing associations like the EAEU and the EU at the same time," Galuzin stated.

"The decision is up to official Yerevan. We hope that Armenian society will be fully informed of both the benefits of EAEU membership and the potential consequences of withdrawal from the organization so that the public can form an objective perspective," the deputy minister added.

Galuzin further emphasized that Armenia is a sovereign state that independently determines its own path of development.

The Armenian National Assembly passed a bill on Armenia's accession to the European Union in the second and final reading on March 26.
