Expert: Trump's trade war reaches Armenia

Political analyst Suren Sargsyan has reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 10% tariff on Armenian imports.

"Trump’s trade war has reached Armenia. The 10% baseline tariff will apply all countries starting April 5," he wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

Trump also unveiled sweeping "reciprocal tariffs" on certain trading partners aimed at penalizing them for their trade barriers.

"This will increase Armenian product prices in the U.S., reducing competitiveness and potentially hurting key exports like aluminum, precious metals, agricultural products and alcohol," Sargsyan stated.

U.S.-Armenia Trade in 2024:

In 2024, total goods trade between Armenia and the United States were an estimated $282.4 million.

• U.S. exports to Armenia: $160.8 million, reflecting a 14.8% decrease ($27.9 million less) compared to 2023.

• U.S. imports from Armenia: $121.6 million, marking an 8.4% decline ($11.1 million less) from 2023.

• U.S. trade surplus with Armenia: $39.2 million, representing a 29.9% reduction ($16.7 million less) from the previous year.
