Justice minister comments on change of Armenia's constitution

Armenian Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan reaffirmed the government's readiness to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

"I do not consider Azerbaijan’s statements as preconditions. The government is fully prepared to finalize the agreement," Galyan told reporters on Thursday.

She stressed that peace has no alternative and all efforts should be aimed at achieving lasting peace. As for the guiding principles behind the peace treaty, I believe the public will be informed very soon," she added.

Addressing a change of Armenia's constitution, Galyan stated, "We are actively working on a new draft constitution. While I cannot disclose details at this stage, this text will not and cannot remain secret. In due time, it will be made public and every article and provision will be discussed with Armenian society."

When asked whether the constitutional changes might be expedited in response to Azerbaijan’s demands, she replied, "I do not think it will be possible to finalize the new constitution in less than 8 to 10 months."
