Armenian chess player beats reigning Azerbaijani champion

The European Women's Chess Championship 2025 is underway in Rhodes, Greece.

After 4 rounds, GM Elina Danielian has 3.5 points and shares the 2nd-8th places, the Armenian Chess Federation reported.

IM Lilit Mkrtchian and WGM Maria Gevorgyan have scored 3 points and are also among the leaders.

On Thursday, Maria defeated Azerbaijani IM Ulviyya Fataliyeva, the reigning European champion.

The next round starts on April 4 at 4 p.m. Yerevan time.
