Armenia sends 5 freestyle wrestlers to European Championships

The European Wrestling Championships kick off in Bratislava on April 7.

Armenia will be represented by five freestyle wrestlers – Manvel Khndzrtsyan (57 kg), Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg), Arman Andreasyan (70 kg), Hayk Papikyan (79 kg) and Gurgen Simonyan (97 kg).

The Armenian Wrestling Federation reports that Manvel Khndzrtsyan will begin his campaign in the quarterfinals, where he will face the winner of the bout between Mongush (UWW) and Tisov (Bulgaria).

Vazgen Tevanyan is set to take on Guseynov (UWW) in the round of 16.

Arman Andreasyan will meet Poland’s Luzhynski in his opening match.

Hayk Papikyan will face Ukrainian wrestler Mykhalkov in the round of 16.

Gurgen Simonyan is also set to start from the round of 16, squaring off against Kurbanov (UWW).
