Why are Armenian officials keeping their meeting with Louis Bono secret?

Armenian Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan, who paid an official visit to Washington, D.C. from April 7 to 11 to attend the Partnerships for Anticorruption Global Forum, met with Senior Bureau Official Louis Bono.

"On April 9, Armenia’s justice minister held a meeting at the U.S. State Department with Louis Bono, Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. The meeting was held at 9:30 a.m. local time (5:30 p.m. Yerevan time), yet there has been no official statement not only regarding the meeting, but about the minister's entire U.S. visit," political analyst Suren Sargsyan wrote on Facebook. "Perhaps there is one and I just haven’t seen it?"

Panorama.am has confirmed through the State Department that Armenian Ambassador to the U.S. Lilit Makunts also attended the April 9 meeting with Bono. The meeting was not scheduled for public coverage. However, neither the Armenian Embassy in Washington nor the Ministry of Justice has issued a statement regarding the meeting or any of the minister’s engagements during the trip.

When asked why there has been no statements on the meeting, Ministry of Justice spokesperson Mariam Melkumyan told Panorama.am that updates on the minister's visit would be released soon. She called for following official statements for further information.
