Azerbaijan 'has backed Armenian authorities into a corner' with preconditions, MP says

Opposition Pativ Unem faction MP Tigran Abrahamyan has stated that the April 12 meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan marked the first opportunity for a substantive discussion on a peace agreement between the two countries.

In a social media post on Monday, Abrahamyan said the official statement following the meeting and the subsequent panel discussion involving the ministers revealed that Azerbaijan "has backed the Armenian authorities into a corner" with its preconditions that are impossible to fulfill within a short timeframe.

“One of the key demands concerns a proposed change of Armenia’s constitution,” Abrahamyan explained. “From a purely technical and procedural standpoint, such amendments cannot be implemented swiftly.”

He stressed that Azerbaijan is fully aware of these procedural complexities.

“Azerbaijan is deliberately dragging out the process to extract further concessions and commitments from Armenia, all while the Armenian leadership is exposing the country to new risks," the MP added.
