MP: Armenian leadership's anti-Artsakh rhetoric aims to appease Azerbaijan
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has criticized the Armenian leadership's anti-Artsakh rhetoric and actions, suggesting they are aimed at gaining favor with Azerbaijan.
“In recent days, we’ve seen the authorities stoke hatred against Artsakh Armenians and other segments of society. These actions have been interpreted in various ways, but I believe the underlying motive at this stage is to present a 'gift' to Azerbaijan,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook on Friday.
The MP suggested that the the Armenian leadership's appeasement policy may culminate in the closure of the Artsakh Representation Office in Armenia, a move that has been repeatedly speculated upon since the Azeri military takeover of Artsakh in September 2023.
“If there were a genuine intention to preserve Artsakh’s state institutions, that could be done in other locations as well,” Abrahamyan stated.
“At this stage, however, the authorities appear more interested in showcasing their tough stance against Artsakh and its people, hoping to win a more favorable attitude from Azerbaijan in return,” he added.
