Ruben Mkhitaryan hopes opposition will achieve change of power in Armenia

Following the inauguration ceremony of newly elected Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan on Saturday, Ruben Mkhitaryan, a city councilor representing the My Strong Community party, expressed optimism about the role of the opposition in shaping Armenia’s political future.

“Without the use of any advanced technology, opposition supporters headed to the polls and cast their votes. Today, we’ve seen an opposition candidate become mayor,” Mkhitaryan told reporters.

“I sincerely hope that the opposition  will pave the way for a future change of power in Armenia. How exactly that will happen is another question,” he added.

Mkhitaryan emphasized that his faction will fully participate in the activities of the Gyumri municipal council and carry out all the responsibilities entrusted to council members.

“We're not seeking positions or putting forward any preconditions. As council members, we will carry out our duties with integrity, drawing on our abilities and knowledge,” he said
