MP: Baku court attempts to link Serzh Sargsyan's interview to so-called 'crimes'

Azerbaijan continues to politicize its judiciary under the guise of prosecuting alleged crimes, this time by scrutinizing an interview given by Armenia’s third President Serzh Sargsyan in court proceedings, says MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction.

In a social media post on Monday, Abrahamyan criticized the Azerbaijani authorities for attempting to link Sargsyan’s statements to various so-called crimes as part of their efforts to delegitimize the Nagorno-Karabakh liberation movement.

“These trials shift focus from the Khojaly events to the Ganja airport incident, even targettig the 1988 Karabakh movement leaders,” Abrahamyan wrote. “If leading the national resistance or standing at the roots of Armenia and Artsakh’s independence is considered a crime, that’s solely Azerbaijan’s problem.”

He stressed that Baku’s goal is not just territorial gains, but to break the Armenian nation’s collective spirit and determination, a campaign, he argued, that aligns with the current Armenian leadership but has yet to succeed.
