Following the death Pope Francis at the age of 88, Gyumri City Council member and famous producer Ruben Mkhitaryan has shared memories of the Pontiff’s historic visit to Armenia in 2016, including his hometown of Gyumri.
“In June 2016, a breeze of Christian unity and love swept through Armenia and especially Gyumri. The visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to the first Christian nation was marked by a beautiful liturgy held in Gyumri’s Vardanants Square," he wrote on Facebook on Monday.
"I had the honor of being directly involved in organizing this truly historic event, after which I was granted a private audience with His Holiness and received his blessing and words of appreciation.
"May God rest his soul. Thank you for not overlooking my city. Thank you for becoming a part of my life story," he said.
