Activist claims some ruling party MPs supported Pashinyan's impeachment

Opposition activist Narek Malyan, spokesperson for the We Are Awake movement, announced that only two figures – Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and former President Robert Kocharyan – oppose impeachment proceedings against Pashinyan.

Speaking to reporters before delivering letters to MPs on Monday urging them to begin the impeachment process, Malyan emphasized that it is currently the only viable path to change of power in Armenia.

He claimed that even some members of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party expressed interest in the impeachment process, including during earlier opposition movements. According to Malyan, at least one Civil Contract MP previously attempted to negotiate with the opposition, seeking financial compensation in exchange for public support of the impeachment effort.

Malyan argued that ruling party lawmakers are driven by fear and personal interest rather than ideological conviction. He emphasized that a nationwide movement is essential to overcoming their hesitation.

Starting today, Malian said his group will seek consultations with Armenia’s three former presidents Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan, as well as the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF). He added that the opposition would be granted full freedom to nominate a candidate for prime minister, pledging unconditional support for the nominee.

"Our goal is to foster a cooperative atmosphere to push for Pashinyan's ouster," he stressed.
