May expected to be rainy, says Armenia's chief meteorologist

May is expected to bring average temperatures and precipitation close to seasonal norms, according to Gagik Surenyan, Deputy Director of Armenia’s Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center. Given the typically high rainfall norms for May, Surenyan noted the month can be considered relatively rainy.

The forecast predicts showers and thunderstorms in Yerevan on the afternoon of April 30, the evening of May 1 and throughout May 2-5. Thunderstorms may bring wind gusts of 15-18 m/s.

In the regions, brief rain and thunderstorms are expected intermittently from April 30 through May 5, with heavy downpours possible in some areas on May 2. Dry weather is expected overnight May 1 and 4. Winds will generally blow from the southwest at 2-5 m/s, intensifying to 18-22 m/s during storms. Temperatures are set to rise by 4-7C starting April 30.
