Lawyer: Assets of Robert Kocharyan and his family couldn't be seized regardless of court's ruling

The property of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and his family could not have been confiscated regardless of the Constitutional Court's ruling as all legal justifications were in place, lawyer Aram Orbelyan said at the discussion on the application of the law on forfeiture of assets of illicit origin following the decision of Armenia's top court.

 “I believe that regardless of whether there are sufficient grounds, no individual, including Robert Kocharyan and his family, is obligated to go through judicial proceedings to prove whether their property was acquired legally or illegally,” stated Orbelian, a managing partner of Concern Dialog Law Firm.

The event was organized by GM Legal in collaboration with the International Center on Development of Parliamentarism NGO, bringing together legal experts to assess the implications of the Constitutional Court's decision on the application of Armenia’s law on illicit asset seizure.
