Hayastan faction ready to back Pashinyan's impeachment with conditions
The opposition Hayastan faction in Armenia's National Assembly says it is ready to provide all 28 of its deputies’ signatures to initiate impeachment proceedings against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan if certain conditions are met.
In a statement released on Friday, the faction reaffirmed its long-standing support for Pashinyan’s removal, calling it essential for the country. However, it noted that initiating the process requires 36 signatures and ultimate success demands at least 54 votes.
The faction emphasized that without strong public pressure, securing the necessary additional votes will be difficult. It also questioned the ability and accountability of the initiative’s current backers, the We Are Awake movement, to mobilize the needed public support.
The opposition faction said it will participate only if the missing eight signatures are secured and the initiators publicly commit to delivering mass public backing and taking responsibility for the outcome. It also condemned attempts to pressure its MPs, warning such tactics will not go unanswered.
On April 28, letters were submitted to all deputies urging them to initiate impeachment proceedings against Pashinyan within 10 days.
