Ruben Mkhitaryan: Media workers should be warriors of conscience
Ruben Mkhitaryan, a member of the My Strong Community faction in the Gyumri City Council, extended congratulations to media professionals on World Press Freedom Day celebrated on May 3.
“Today marks World Press Freedom Day.
The technical evolution of the media over the past century is evident to all of us, from print to radio, from television to the internet and blogosphere. But when it comes to the moral evolution of journalism, the key word remains freedom.
This is where the most critical dividing line lies. Whether or not a media outlet is truly free is best known by the people who work for it. I believe that every journalist and editor understands exactly what I mean.
In recent years, working in the media has required individuals to also become warriors of conscience.
Dear journalists, editors, cameramen, sound engineers, directors, video editors, proofreaders and hosts, I wish you endless freedom and may you always be guided by impartiality in your work. May your efforts never be at odds with your conscience or convictions.
Happy Press Freedom Day!” reads the message.
