Several officials questioned in ANIF corruption probe, chief prosecutor says

Armenia’s Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan has confirmed that several current and former officials have been questioned as part of a corruption investigation into the Armenian National Interests Fund (ANIF) which is now defunct.

Speaking in the parliament on Thursday, Vardapetyan stated that an active probe is ongoing and criminal charges are under consideration. The probe, being carried out by the Special Assignments Department of the Investigative Committee, involves allegations of inflated salaries and bonuses paid to ANIF employees, as well as suspected financial misconduct involving the fund’s partnerships with the Armenian Airlines and Fly Arna.

The chief prosecutor noted that the investigation may involve violations under Articles 277 and 256 of the Criminal Code, with several individuals implicated. She revealed that one episode under investigation concerns nearly $2 million in alleged misuse of funds.

“We see this case moving toward a judicial process,” Vardapetyan said, stressing that officials linked to ANIF have already been and continue to be questioned.
