Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan paid tribute to fallen soldiers on Yerkrapah Day (Homeland Defender's Day) on May 8, which also commemorates the liberation of Shushi.
“Today, on the day of homeland defenders, who fought heroically against the aggressor foe and became the core of the national army, as well as the anniversary of the liberation of Shushi and the end of the siege of Stepanakert, a wreath was laid at the Yerablur Military Pantheon on behalf of third Armenian President and Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. The wreath was placed at the memorial honoring the heroic deeds of those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the homeland,” his office said in a statement.
“Eternal glory to the dedicated martyrs of our Fatherland! Gratitude to the warriors of freedom and independence!” it added.
