MP: Real situation of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan largely unknown
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has voiced serious concerns over the lack of reliable information on Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, he noted that Vicken Euljekjian, a Lebanese-Armenian civilian unlawfully detained in Azerbaijan, had reportedly been on a hunger strike for 15 days, highlighting uncertainties about captives' conditions and numbers.
“Azerbaijan has officially acknowledged that it is holding 23 Armenian prisoners, but many more were seen in social media posts during and after the 2020 war,” Abrahamyan said, warning that even the wellbeing of confirmed prisoners remains unclear. He stressed that Armenia must take urgent action to ensure their rights and safety.
“Their repatriation remains the top priority,” he added, criticizing the Armenian authorities for their inaction and empty promises.
