Sharmazanov marks anniversary of 1994 ceasefire deal

On 12 May1994, a ceasefire agreement was signed between Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, effectively halting the first Artsakh war. Reflecting on the anniversary, opposition politician Eduard Sharmazanov, a senior member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), praised the deal signed by former President Serzh Sargsyan.

“Serzh Sargsyan signed a victorious ceasefire, while [Prime Minister] Nikol Pashinyan signed a capitulation,” Sharmazanov wrote.

He emphasized that the 1994 truce was imposed by Armenian forces through unity and determination, compelling Azerbaijan to accept its terms.

Sharmazanov further accused the Pashinyan administration of undermining Armenia’s strategic positions and historical achievements.

“Today, Nikol and his team have squandered our victories and are begging for 'peace' from Azerbaijan and Turkey, effectively paving the way for the Azerbaijanization of Armenia,” the politician stated.
