Mother and baby survive freak accident due to swift medical intervention in Armenia

A 23-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child are recovering after a life-threatening accident in Yerevan, where strong winds dislodged a metal sheet from a rooftop, causing a serious injury.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. on May 11, the woman, who was 36 weeks pregnant, was in her yard when she was struck in the abdomen by the flying sheet of metal. Family members acted quickly, rushing her to Erebuni Maternity Hospital amid severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding.

“Just 7 minutes after her arrival, doctors began surgery. A cesarean section was performed, and the ruptured uterus was successfully repaired. A baby girl, weighing 2,450 grams and 48 cm long, was delivered with a 5 cm deep wound on her left forehead," the hospital said in a statement.

“The newborn was immediately transferred to Surb Astvatsamayr Medical Center for treatment of the wound. Thankfully, both the mother and the baby are in satisfactory condition. Thanks to the swift action of our specialists, two lives were saved,” it added.
