Activist: Civil Contract's reaction to impeachment reflects stress response

Civic activist Edgar Ghazaryan, co-founder of the We Are Awake movement, claims Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party is showing "signs of stress" over the proposed impeachment proceedings against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“When people are stressed, they don’t always cry – sometimes they laugh. That’s exactly how Civil Contract is behaving now,” Ghazaryan told reporters on Friday, calling the party’s reaction an attempt to downplay a serious constitutional process.

He underscored that impeachment is a legitimate constitutional mechanism and its dismissal as unserious reflects the government’s anxiety.

“For ten days now, the entire society has been talking about this process. Every political interview addreses it and two parliament factions have made statements on it. How can it be labelled unserious?” the activist added.

Ghazaryan unveiled plans to meet with Deputy National Assembly Speaker Hakob Arshakyan today, following earlier meetings with MPs Gegham Nazaryan and Arman Ghazaryan.
