Azerbaijan has put forward a new precondition for the finalization of a peace agreement with Armenia, opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan says.
In a social media post on Monday, he quoted Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev as saying that foreign military presence in the region is no longer necessary.
“Azerbaijan effectively demands the removal of the Russian military base from Armenia, something the current Armenian leadership does not oppose and could have coordinated positions with Azerbaijan behind the scenes,” the Pativ Unem faction MP wrote.
“Azerbaijan and Turkey are reshaping their roles in the region, relegating Armenia to a subordinate status,” Abrahamyan added.
