MP: Cases against Serzh Sargsyan lack legal basis, quickly dropped

The Anti-Corruption Court is set to begin hearings today in the case against Armenia’s third President, Serzh Sargsyan, who is facing charges related to a land privatization deal dating back two decades, during his tenure as defense minister.

Ahead of the hearing, MP Tigran Abramyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction dismissed the case as politically motivated. He accused the government of misusing state institutions, including prosecutors, investigators and the judiciary, to sideline politically active figures through fabricated charges.

“These cases are deliberately dragged out for years to drain time and energy, despite officials knowing they won’t stand up in court,” Abramyan said. 

He noted that charges against Sargsyan are often dropped quickly, revealing their lack of legal merit and political motives behind them.
