Analyst: Aliyev 'has fully taken Pashinyan's measure'

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev believes that Armenia will ultimately accept Baku’s key preconditions for the conclusion of a peace agreement.

“Unfortunately, Armenia does not want to accept these two conditions yet. However, the events of recent years and the course of the processes show that sooner or later they will have to agree to our proposals because there is nothing extraordinary in them,” he said on Tuesday, referring to Azerbaijan’s demands for a change of Armenia’s constitution and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Commenting on Aliyev’s remarks, political analyst Suren Surenyants said the Azerbaijani leader's confidence likely stems from one of two factors.

“Either Pashinyan has already provided certain assurances to Azerbaijan, or Aliyev has fully taken Pashinyan's measure and is convinced that Armenia's current prime minister has no 'red lines'," Surenyants wrote.
