YSU rector, a theologian, declines to comment on Pashinyan's church remarks

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is scheduled to visit Yerevan State University (YSU) today. Speaking to reporters ahead of the visit, YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan emphasized that students are free to raise any questions they wish at the event.

“The meeting will focus on the inauguration of a new laboratory and will include open dialogue with students,” Hovhannisyan said. “We reached out to faculties, received a list of active students and told them they are free to ask all kinds of questions.”

Hovhannisyan, who is a graduate of the YSU Faculty of Theology, declined to comment on Pashinyan's offensive remarks about Armenian clergymen.

“I will not address those questions, as today's gathering has a different purpose. I reserve the right not to respond and I won’t," he stated.
