Activist hails RPA's move to impeach Pashinyan

Civic activist Edgar Ghazaryan, co-founder of the We Are Awake movement, has praised the Republican Party of Armenia’s (RPA) statement to initiate impeachment proceedings against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as "one of the most anticipated in recent days".

The move suggests that members of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, which includes the RPA, will soon nominate a candidate for prime minister.

In a social media post on Saturday, Ghazaryan said that while he was not in a position to propose a nominee, RPA deputy chair and political prisoner Armen Ashotyan would be a strong contender.

“This process is not about electing a long-term leader,” the activist wrote. “Whoever is elected will serve only temporarily, until the 2026 elections. A new government must be formed, bringing together all key figures and forces determined to end Pashinyan’s rule."

Ghazaryan expressed confidence that the opposition Hayastan faction would back the initiative and urged independent MPs Hovik Aghazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan, who had previously introduced a no-confidence motion against Pashinyan, to join the effort if their intentions were sincere.

“We are embarking on a resolute struggle,” he stated. “Removing Nikol Pashinyan from power requires unity across all political forces, figures and the entire nation."
