MP calls for change of power in Armenia to stop attacks on church

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has called for a change of government in Armenia to stop the ongoing attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church and its senior clergy.

In a social media post on Tuesday, the Pativ Unem faction MP strongly criticized Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s push for church reforms, accusing him of failing to uphold his constitutional and electoral commitments and falling short of meaningful governance reforms.

Abrahamyan defended the parliamentary vote of no confidence in Pashinyan as the only viable path to political change in the country.

“The second level is spiritual and moral, where the approaches and principles should be defined by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin," the MP wrote.

He emphasized that coordinated action on both political and spiritual fronts is essential not only to protect the Mother See, but also to safeguard the interests of the Armenian nation.
