Armenian MP found guilty of abuse of office

On 26 May 2025, Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court found Arthur Sargsyan, an MP from the opposition Hayastan faction and a former mayor of Sisian, guilty of abuse of office and forgery.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reports that Sargsyan, in collusion with six others, including public officials, misused municipal funds during a procurement process for community needs. Their actions resulted in property damage to the Sisian municipality totaling over 3.6 million drams (around $9,000).

Despite the conviction under Articles 308 and 314 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, Sargsyan was freed from criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. The six accomplices were also found guilty.
