Drones launched from Azerbaijan's Caspian Coast toward Iran, analyst says

Political analyst Ara Poghosyan reports that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were launched overnight from Azerbaijan’s Caspian Sea coastline toward Bandar-e Anzali, a port city in northern Iran. According to Poghosyan, Iran’s air defense systems successfully detected and neutralized the drones.

“In the wake of recent Israeli signals, it appears Azerbaijan has finally decided to carry out Israel’s will,” Poghosyan wrote on Facebook on Monday.

The analyst rejected the claims that the developments surrounding Iran are irrelevant to Armenia’s security environment.

“Unfortunately, that is not the case,” he said. “What is happening around Iran has both direct and indirect implications for Armenia.”

Poghosyan pointed to increasing activity by Israel and its allies aimed at stepping up pressure on Iran.

"If Israel’s military operations persist, they may prompt Azerbaijan to strike Iran from the rear. That is why Azerbaijan is currently laying the information groundwork at the public level," he added.
