Ruben Rubinyan: Armenia and Turkey maintain contact at various levels

The visit of Armenia’s deputy foreign minister to Turkey is part of the Armenia-Turkey normalization process, Ruben Rubinyan, a deputy parliament speaker and Armenia’s special envoy for normalization talks with Turkey, said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

Rubinyan emphasized that contacts are not limited to his meetings with Turkey’s special representative, but also occur at the level of foreign ministries, various ministers and through phone calls between the leaders of the two countries.

Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and his Turkish counterpart Berris Ekinci met in Ankara on Monday.

According to an official statement, the sides exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues during the meeting.

When asked whether a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was planned, Rubinyan responded, “Whenever a visit by the prime minister is scheduled, the government announces it in due time.”

Regarding a possible meeting between himself and his Turkish counterpart, Rubinyan noted, “At the moment, no date has been confirmed for our next meeting.”
