Golden Apricot to honor African filmmaker for first time

Abderrahmane Sissako, the Mauritanian master and award-winning filmmaker laureate of Cannes Film Festival, César and many more, has been named the president of the International Competition Jury of the 22nd Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival.

“Sissako is one of the most sensitive and profound voices in world cinema, known for his deep humanism, compassion, pursuit of justice, and advocacy for tolerance,” the festival said in a statement on Thursday.

“For the first time in its history, Golden Apricot will honor an African filmmaker,” it added.
