Cosmetic injectables on the rise among young Armenians

In recent years, aesthetic injections such as Botox, hyaluronic acid fillers, mesotherapy and PRP treatments have become increasingly popular in Armenia, particularly among young people. What was once primarily sought by individuals over 30 is now common among those in their early 20s, reflecting global beauty trends and growing social media influence, the Heratsi Analytical Center reports.

According to local experts, aesthetic medicine in Armenia began to gain traction in the mid-2000s, following international developments and training programs abroad. Today, specialized clinics offer a wide range of non-surgical cosmetic procedures aimed at facial enhancement and rejuvenation.

While the global average age for Botox patients is around 43, data from the U.S. shows that nearly a quarter of treatments in 2022 were administered to individuals aged 18-34. Similarly, in Armenia, procedures like lip fillers and facial contouring are increasingly common among people in their 20s, while older patients tend to seek rejuvenating treatments.

Although generally safe when performed by licensed professionals, cosmetic injectables carry medical risks such as:

• Allergic reactions

• Infections due to non-sterile techniques

• Uneven results or overcorrection

• Bruising or swelling

• Rare but severe complications like arterial blockage, leading to tissue necrosis or even blindness

Cases of counterfeit products and non-medical providers have been reported internationally, highlighting the importance of choosing qualified professionals and certified products.
