Armenian analyst comments on Iran-Israel ceasefire deal

Political analyst Suren Sargsyan has offered his perspective on the recent ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, cautioning that the deal does not ensure lasting peace.

"This is not peace, but a ceasefire," Sargsyan wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

He claimed that achieving true peace requires a long and difficult process, something Armenia has also grappled with since the 2020 ceasefire.

"We, too, received a ceasefire in 2020, but a genuine era of peace still remains out of reach,” the analyst stated.

According to Sargsyan, neither Iran nor Israel emerged as a clear winner or loser in the recent escalation. Rather, both sides opted for de-escalation under the U.S. pressure.

"If anyone believes Iran and Israel can find solutions that are equally acceptable to both sides and the American public as well, they are deeply mistaken," he said. "This is neither the first nor the last ceasefire in the region."

Turning to Armenia, Sargsyan reiterated that the country's vital national interest lies in the stabilization of U.S.-Russia and Iran-U.S. relations.

"Peace is precious, but it cannot be achieved through begging. Iran and Israel are well aware of its price,” he said, recalling that the latest fighting marked the third direct confrontation between the two countries in the past 15 months.
