Renowned Armenian actor Guzh Manukyan dies at 88

Famous stage and screen actor Guzh Manukyan, People’s Artist of Armenia, has passed away at the age of 88. The news was confirmed by the Theatre Workers' Union of Armenia on Tuesday.

Born on May 6, 1937, in Gyumri, Manukyan graduated from the Yerevan State Institute of Fine Arts and Theater in 1958. Over his decades-long career, he performed on the stages of the Kapan Drama Theatre, Yerevan State Youth Theatre, and later, leading drama theatres of the capital.

His memorable roles included Mitrofan in The Minor, Saro in Anush, Pyotr in The Philistines, Buckingham in Richard III, and Tigran the Great in The Call of the Gods, a performance that earned him the Armenian State Prize in 1981.

In cinema, Manukyan appeared in several notable films from 1964 onward, including The Mourning Snow, The Best Half of Life and Die on Horseback.
